Story Description

The Value of Fairness is the third in this wonderful series of illustrated books for children. In this fun story, children learn how a young journalist, Nellie Bly, gets involved in making a difference in the world by writing newspaper stories wherever she saw the need to treat people fairly.

The Tale of Nellie Bly takes children back to 19th Century America, as they watch a pioneering woman, Nellie Bly, creatively find a job as a newspaper reporter at a time when only men held those positions.

The story unfolds as we follow Nellie from one adventure to the next – from her breakthrough story exposing the unfairness in mental health care in the United States – to the trip she takes around the world to break the travel record set in Jules Verne’s novel, Around the World in Eighty Days.  All along the way, Nellie is accompanied by her own best thoughts, shown through the imaginary character of a friendly mouse named “Sunny”.

This story inspires children by showing how one person can make difference in a life, a community and the world, by being fair.  Children realize that they too can make life a little better for everyone if they are fair, in what they do everyday.

Children will be eager to return to the story over and over again, and parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends will find this story is a wonderful way to help children develop a strong sense of fairness.
