Story Description

The Value of Honesty is the second book in the ValueTales series of illustrated books for children. In this historical story, children learn the value of being honest, as they follow the life of the great philosopher, Confucius.

The Tale of Confucius takes place in China over 2,500 years ago.  Children learn as they watch Confucius grow from a young child to an older, respected, teacher and philosopher, who listens to, and learns from his own thinking, which he has fun seeing as an imaginary character, a wise old owl, named “Sage”.

The story begins with Confucius as a young boy, listening to, and learning from, his father.  Then, as he grows from being an honest grain dealer, to becoming a teacher, a leader and a world renowned philosopher.

Things do not always go smoothly and at one point in his life Confucius is thrown in jail by mistake.  However, because Confucius has a reputation of being honest, he is released quickly.  His students help Confucius document his teachings and share his knowledge with others, which we are still learning from thousands of years later.

This story clearly demonstrates how life is better when you are honest.  Children can realize that when they are honest, with themselves and others, their life is more fun and enjoyable, and it is a value that will serve them well their entire lives.

Many children are eager to return to the story over and over again, and parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends will find this story a wonderful way to help children develop a strong sense of honesty.
