Story Description
The Value of Patience is the tenth story in the New ValueTales series of illustrated books for children. This story tells the tale of Orville and Wilbur Wright, brothers who through years of hard work and patience were able to revolutionize transportation.
They were curious boys who were interested in the mechanics of how a certain flying toy their father had given them worked. The boys dreamed of being able to create a flying machine that would be able to transport people from one place to another. The Wright brothers told their friend Jimmy about their idea and he all but laughed at them, saying it could never be done. The Wright brothers decided not to give up and through there own best thoughts, shown by an encouraging bird, named Red Byrd, the brothers decided to learn as much as they could to make a flying machine.
Orville and Wilbur’s father instilled in them the value of patience by reminding them that anything that is worth having in life takes time. The boys grew into young men who kept building and testing several different versions of their “airplane”. Finally after years of hard work and patience they were able to build and fly the first engine powered airplane. Children will be eager to return to the story over and over again, and parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends will find this story is a wonderful way to help children develop a strong sense of the power patience can have in their lives.
